CCCC has a competitive team in the Bay Cities Junior Golf League. This league has approximately 32 teams competing in 4 Divisions with playoffs for an overall champion. Our team is open to our members’ children, our members’ grandchildren and our Junior Merit Members. Our CCCC team tryouts are in April with matches May-August. Please contact Lyle Tripp for more information.
Each Bay Cities League member club embraces the concept of promoting junior golf, as not only a safe, healthy, and good environment for its junior members, but also as a way of building appreciation and respect for the game to the youngster who one day will be the next generation of members, and leaders in our community. Specifically,
Bay Cities League play enables its junior players to:
1. Play 18 holes of golf (not just 9, as in some programs and high schools).
2. Play golf at some of the best private golf courses in Northern California.
3. Continue to play competitive golf after their high school graduation, especially at a time (between 18 and 21) when young men and women need commitment and a place to belong.
4. Play their matches on Saturdays at a prime time (same as touring professional tee times for the tournament leaders).
5. Play “scratch golf” in a match format (most other programs are medal/stroke play); no handicaps are used in our competitions.
6. Participate in a co-ed league. This is very unusual, in any format. Girls compete directly against the boys in non-handicapped match play. The girls use the next forward tee. In 2001, a young woman (a player on the Palo Alto Hills Bay Cities team) shot a 62 in the U.S. Junior Amateur – the lowest golf score ever made in any USGA championship match, including the 102 U.S. Opens.
7. Play without regard to age groups or classification. It is ability, not age, that determines who plays on our team and in our league.
